19th April – Destination Kodaikanal. Arrival 8.50.
72 hours was all I had at KodaiKanal, yes a very short time for the amount of travelling I did from Goa, right down to Kodai Road station and then up the Laws Ghat road to KodaiKanal Hills in 2 hours and 9 minutes as the map below shows – 80 kms by road.
The drive which was a pleasant one with scenic beauty all around and a fairly helpful driver going by the name of R.Mugam. Though language seemed to be the biggest barrier between the driver and myself, we did manage to talk with a mix of broken English, a few words of Hindi, malayalam and kannada thrown in and when all that failed we used out hands to get the message across to each other. All in all it was an interesting 2 hours drive from Kodai Station to Kodaikanal Hills. He had hindi music playing in the car, that helped me not to doze off after a fairly long train journey.
…thw winding road, one curve after another all the way to the top (55 kms of the Ghat section)
It seemed with after every few kilometers driving upwards towards Kodaikanal hills, it got a little more cooler, from 25 degrees at Kodai Road station, by the time we reached the top, it was 17 degrees with a strong wind blowing across. Now this is the kind of weather I was looking forward too…
Closer to the top…
…and the first view at the top… Kodaikanal Hills
As you can see the cloud cover…this was around 11.00am
