‘I understand’ – just a phrase?

I understand

…and by that I do not mean saying it in arrogance but in genuine empathy.

That said – it is one thing to understand someone; and a whole different ball game for them to feel understood.

I often say “I understand”
Yes, I truly do..
but is it normal to ‘understand’ people all the time? 🤔

When it seems like I cannot take it all in..
I guess saying ‘I understand’ is my way of implying, I rather let it go and not dwell on it too much

Maybe I’m just saying it to not disappoint you..

but with every ‘I understand’ …I guess I’m disappointing myself.

But then again, I guess at the end of the day, I guess I do really understand 😇

Or is it just a nice guy’s go-to-word (s) ? 🤔

People make friendships, build relationships, yet when it comes to understanding another, no one is really ready for it. So then, what makes me be that person who understands it all? For Pete’s sake, I’ve just been on this earth for 36 years, I am not supposed to understand it all.

Yet out of no-where, suddenly, out-of-the-blue, there’s a friend who’ll call… and like

“Hey!”

and begin talking.. like nothing’s happened and expect me to pick up on conversation.

I’d like to ask – where have you been all this time?… but NO. I Understand

and at the END of the conversation, it will always be

“you’re really sweet Sav, you always understand me” 😜🤦‍♂️

Ya right! 🙏

So it’s just a ‘thing’ then?..that people say?

  4. Do people really like the sacrificial goats among us?

    1. I don’t think there’s a one sentence answer to that question. I’d say it depends on who are the “people” we’re talking about
