I may not possess the most extensive collection of English vocabulary available, but I do mix around the words I know and use them effectively in conversation
I’ve always been a “words” person – written or spoken. There’s something about reading/listening to different people express themselves, talking about things or people that they are passionate about.
Even when it comes to watching a movie or listening to a song, its more for the dialogues and the lyrics that attracts me towards it… to go a step further, the emotion that goes behind a particular dialogue or lyrics of a song.
The thing with being an Indian is that, we are constantly interacting with people, either while traveling, waiting for your bus at a bus-stop or simply eating at a restaurant. We’re never too far from striking a conversation. A lot of credit must be given to the various news channels that feed us with ‘more than enough’ information to keep us engaged in conversation.
If we listen carefully to how people speak, we’d probably understand that, we aren’t only exchanging information but also learning about each other..each other’s personality traits, characteristics, interests, what makes him the person he is.. and a whole lot more. The problem with us today is that, we talk too much.. we hardly tend to notice the other person and tend to jump to conclusions even before getting to know one another.
The same goes with writing. Have you ever received ‘personalized birthday messages’? If you have.. how does it make you feel? Special? Different? Happy? Anyone can write a “Happy Birthday” but it takes effort to write a special message, there is a bit of yourself in every personal message. The person is trying to tell you something through those words. How boring is it to receive images on whatsapp, for example a “Merry Christmas” “Happy Diwali” or “Happy Birthday”, why not go the extraaaa mile and write something unique, something from you and not just the run-of-the-mill greeting. I know I certainly wouldn’t appreciate something like that.
I will always go that extra mile and say a little more… write a little more or even do a little more.
What about you? Would you too?
Yes! Gifts, Money and Hugs go a long way in making people happy.. but then again, all these are short lived, they make the person happy just for a little while, but ‘Words’, yes words, especially if written are never forgotten.
